I have been so busy lately that I have not made one single post on my blog this month. It’s crazy! And now the month of Christmas, I mean December, is upon us and I don’t think I will be any less busy than I have been in November!

I have been in school the last two weeks and now the Christmas craze is going to make me run around at work – but during the month of November I have been inspired by the natural look, both in terms of hair and makeup, I have many new ideas for tattoos and layering outfits is a win every winter!

Hit play and enjoy 🙂

Detox Your Body

If you have access to the internet you have probably heard of detoxing juice cleanses, fit-teas, water-fasting and other ways of cleansing your body from within.
The reason why detoxes are becoming popular is because we are exposed to many free radicals, heavy metals and other pollutants in our food, clothes and cosmetics on an everyday basis. Unfortunately, these toxins are easily stored in our body when we are exposed to them or consume them. The way our body tells us that we have stored too many of these pollutants is by feeling lethargic, heavy, irritated, sleepy, depressed and all other negative feelings we might experience. Actually, children are often diagnosed with early depression or hyperactivity when in fact it is important to look at the child’s diet and environment before prescribing an anti-depressant!

The way our body combats free-radicals, which are atoms or molecules that are chemically unstable meaning that they attach and destroy ‘healthy’ cells, is with the help of anti-oxidants. The way free-radicals destroy our cells is by oxidising them, which is why we call vitamins capable of combating free-radicals anti-oxidants. You’ve probably heard that you should eat loads of fruit and vegetables and the so-called super foods like goji berries or raw cocoa nibs, because they are rich in anti-oxidants. And now you know why! Free-radicals are especially prevalent in cigarette smoke and polluted air, and they are strongly affected by stress and poor fatty diets, which is why you should start with a lifestyle change if you want to detoxify your body properly.
Another pollutant that is just as terrible as those darn free-radicals (which make our body age faster, yikes!) is toxic heavy metals. Mercury, lead and arsenic are some examples of toxic heavy metals and the first, mercury, is particularly worth mentioning.
The fact that our Earth and our seas are being polluted is well established, however, the problem rises when the fish in the sea are exposed to the pollution, because fish store the pollutants (especially mercury) in their bodies. When the small fish is eaten by larger fish, which eats a couple of small fish, the larger fish obtains the mercury of all those fishes! Then the large fish is eaten by another, and by the time you buy the fish and serve it for dinner, the fish contains a toxic amount of heavy metals that makes it a carcinogen (provoces cancer). This is why the topic of fish being a health food is so hot nowadays. But I digress.

All these pollutants weigh down our body and our mental health, which is why it is important to watch what you eat and detox or cleanse your body once in a while.
My first suggestion is to change your lifestyle.
It probably doesn’t come as a surprise to you that smoking, drinking, eating processed foods or using too many chemical laden cosmetics is considered a poor lifestyle.
However, it doesn’t mean that if your body has been exposed to these pollutants that it can’t get back on it’s feet!

Before getting into all the natural ways of cleansing and detoxing your body, I want to make you understand that most companies and brands, who make cleansing-detoxing-fit-teas do it for the money. Of course not every brand, but most of them jump on the bandwagon, because they see a potential money-maker. Most weight loss teas contain xenna, which is a natural laxative meaning that you excrete more often and lose a lot of water too. You might feel great at first, because you feel lighter due to less.. well.. poop inside of you and you lose a lot of water too making the scale show a lesser number than you are used to.
As soon as you stop drinking the teas you put the weight back on, but that’s just the weight you were naturally meant to have, because you body regains the water that it lost and needs in order to function.
Another fact about xenna is that it is highly addicting. Your bowels become depended on xenna to move the food you eat out again, and you will gradually have to up the dose of it too.
Your body is smart and gets used to many things like caffaine, sugar and laxatives. You start off with one cup of coffee a day and before you know it you feel like having two. You put one spoon of sugar on your oatmeal and before you know it you feel like having two. You start off with one tea containing laxatives, but your body gets used to it and you suddenly don’t visit the bathroom as often as you did the day before and you suddenly drink two teas per day.

The natural way will always take more time than these quick fixes, because they are less invasive. Your body is like a machine, so fixing one thing wont make the machinery run smoothly. It isn’t enough to cleanse your skin with a gel and toner to make your complexion clear. You have to cleanse your liver too, so it can be more effective at cleansing your entire body of pollutants and toxins, and therefore your skin too. It isn’t enough to stop eating sugary foods to stabilise your blood sugar, you have to cleanse your pancreas too – it produces all your hormones, including insulin, which all affect each other.
Here is a list of natural herbs and teas that cleanse and detoxifies your body. Mix and match the herbs and teas to make your custom detoxing tea!

Calendula or pot marigold fights nausea and constipation.

Dandelion is great for your entire body. It contains anti-oxidants that are great for every cell in your body, as explained above. Dandelion supports your liver and gallbladder, which improves digestion.

Dill is a great herb for a gassy stomach.

Flaxseed is mildly laxative if you experience constipation. It softens your bowels, per se, and contains a lot of omega 3’s. Like, a lot.

Green Field-Speedwell helps with menstrual irregularities or interruption.

Leonurus helps with a gassy stomach and promotes bowel movement.

Mallow is great if you are constipated. When constipated, your body doesn’t function properly at all. The digestive tract is often neglected of how important it is and how big of an influence it has on the rest of the body! If you are constipated your body doesn’t get all the nutrients you need from the food you eat. This makes your body tired, lethargic and  worsens your digestion.

Milk Thistle is great for a multitude of liver disorders and therefore also intoxication and poisoning. Milk thistle also helps when you have poor digestion.

Nettle is great for your kidneys, which are responsible for cleansing your body of toxic waste and your fat metabolism.

Rampion Bellflower stabilises the blood sugar.

Red Clover cleanses the blood, which is your body’s natural supplier of sugar, nutrients, oxygen and all other things that your cells need.

Verbena or Vervian is great for better blood coagulation, it helps if you have problems with your digestion, and helps if your menstruation is late or has problems starting.

Yarrow is a wonder herb that helps with so many different disorders, but focusing on detoxing it improves your digestion.

Mix and match all the herbs mentioned above and brew yourself your own detoxing tea. Re-design your lifestyle by avoiding processed foods, smoking, drinking and eating animal derived foods. Make your health a priority and remember to do what you enjoy, eat what you enjoy, to sustain a healthy body and mind!

Benecos French Lavender Nail Polish

20.10.2016

IMG_20161017_145356

Along with having a Benecos foundation, mineral powder, translucent powder, couple of eyeshadows and blush, I have a fair few Benecos nail polishes.

A couple of days ago the weather in Denmark changed from late summery to very cold and gloomy – Autumn has officially arrived!
I suddenly got the urge to do my nails in a deep or dark colour – I have had them light or colourless for months…

I wasn’t sure whether I felt like having purple nails, but I wanted to try Benecos’ French Lavender and I was enjoying my day off watching TV and drinking tea – a perfect setting for grooming your nails 🙂

If you ask me, this is the perfect shade of purple! More blue tones than red, not too dark, and a little dusty making the colour muted and not too sharp to look at.

Benecos nail polishes are vegan, cruelty free, free of toluene, camphor, phthalates and formaldehyde, free of all parabens, dimethicone, BHT, synthetic fragrances and colours, mineral oil, petrolatum, heavy metals and everything else that tempers with your health!

I cannot stress enough how fantastic Benecos is – I simply love, love, love their products!

How I make my manicure stay chip-free and looking shiny is by painting a very thin layer on each nail. I let that dry completely! Only when the first layer is dry I paint on the second layer, which I try to make as thick as possible without bleeding of the nail polish into the cuticle.
I strive to watch some TV or do something else that lets me not use my fingers for about an hour. Top coats always dry very quickly, but I don’t apply it before the next day – three layers of nail polish is bound to be a disaster!
The next day I put on a generous layer of top coat and after ten minutes my manicure is free of scratches, uneven colour and stays shiny!
It’s been four days of vigorous cleaning, re-organising and such at work, and my manicure is barely chipped!

Benecos Mono Eyeshadows

16.10.2016
IMG_20161016_134315

Benecos is a brand near and dear to my heart.
I started using it long before I went vegan due to the low prices and their natural content. I was surprised how well the foundation fitted my skin colour and tone, considering that there were only three colours to choose from – nude, honey and caramel!

Now, they have a foundation, a light fluid and a BB cream, but it’s not about the foundations. I want to give a round of applause to their mono eyeshadows. They are, as are all of their products, cruelty free, paraben- and harsh chemical free, and organic!
Some, including their mono eyeshadows, are vegan.

I am proud to say that I am the product manager of Benecos and I have had the opportunity to try most of their products – the eyeshadows are phenomenal! Take a look here:

IMG_20161016_134315

Benecos used to have mono-, duo- and quattro eyeshadows, but they have made a summer/spring edit and dumped the duo eyeshadows and made them separate.

I am the happy owner of So What?, Fairytale, Cosmic Moon, Frozen Yogurt and Mauve Me. My absolute favourite is So What, which I have a spare of even though I can order it directly from the supplier! Frozen Yogurt is a perfect base colour and Mauve Me is great for an everyday look.

So What?So What
By far the best of them all, as of now…

It is a shimmer eyeshadow with golden tones and golden shimmer particles – no other underlying tones insight. It is absolutely gorgeous on the eyelid. For a ridiculous amount of time I used it as an everyday eyelid colour. I solely used a natural shade on the brow bone and this on the entire eyelid. I received so many complements, especially at work where two of my coworkers ended up buying it themselves. It can be worn daily by applying it with a light hand, but it is perfect for a golden look at night too.
The colour is long lasting if you use it with an eyeshadow base. I use the Benecos Natural Eyeshadow Base, which is very golden and shimmery, matching the So What? eyeshadow perfectly. What I love about this eyeshadow is the shade of gold – it looks like you have two eyeshadows on even though you don’t. The colour looks dark in the crease, but gives a beautiful highlight on the center of the eyelid and above the crease. I, love, it!

FairytaleFairytale
Was a bit of a let down, but it is nonetheless still a part of my vanity collection. Fairytale is a cool tone pink eyeshadow with golden speckles. I was inspired by a photo (the second one) that made me rush to the store and buy Fairytale, but the colour doesn’t pay off that well. I tried it with an eyeshadow base, which made a world of a difference, but though I tried it a couple of times, I didn’t like the look as much on myself.

Fairytale wont be a re-purchase, but I like using it as a highlighter.

Cosmic MoonCosmic Moon
Is a GORGEOUS shimmery, green, gray, golden eyeshadow that I couldn’t resist!

Just look at it. Give yourself and me a moment.
I regret that I am not the every-weekend-party-goer solely because I can’t wear this eyeshadow as often. The colour looks muddy if you apply it with a light hand, which makes it difficult to wear as an everyday eyeshadow, but if you apply it on a full smokey… Good grief! <3

I didn’t just pick this colour for.. well, it’s colour. I also chose it, because I like colours that accentuate my gray eyes. Gray eyes are very easy to manipulate, which means that the surrounding colours change the tone of them. My eyes are a dark gray with a hint of blue, so they easily appear dark blue when I wear cool tone clothes. By using a gray colour with green undertones, I can accentuate the gray in my eyes, which this little gem does perfectly!

Frozen YogurtFrozen Yogurt
Poor Frozen Yogurt.. I don’t have that much to say, because it is a good ol’ regular base colour. It is matt, it is neutral toned, it has a slight salmony shade. It matches my eyelids perfectly, which makes it a great brow bone eyeshadow colour and base. This shade gets the credit for being the incognito saviour of my everyday eyeshadow look 🙂

Mauve MeMauve Me
Lastly, but not least, is Mauve Me. A brown, matt eyeshadow with a hint of aubergine or bordeaux tones, but just a hint. There are many variations of mauve colours, some are more purple, some are cooler, some are warmer… This little mauve gem is in the shade of a medium brown with slighty more purple tones than a neutral brown shade.
I wanted an eyelid colour for an everyday look without the shimmer. Even though I have strayed from my lovely So What, I haven’t forgotten it! I have a Young Blood eyeshadow quad in the shade of Shanghai Nights. I love it. I absolutely adore it, but I prefer supporting companies such as Benecos, who strive to be as cruelty free, natural and vegan as they do. At one point I was reassured that Young Blood is cruelty free, and that most of their products are vegan, but I do not feel like taking the time to research them everytime I want to buy a product. I wanted a medium brown eyeshadow as close to the one from the Young Blood quad  as possible. Mauve Me is a close, yet different bet, as the Young Blood shade was a bit browner and warmer. Benecos labels every product that they have if it is vegan. Thanks for that!
I haven’t had the time to test Mauve Me out as much as I’d like, but I can already tell that this will be a little staple of mine 🙂

Here are some swatches of the shades over a thin layer of Benecos Natural Eyeshadow Base

IMG_20161016_134826

As you can see, Frozen Yogurt and Fairytale are struggling to appear, but I have to say that they are much more noticeable in reality.

Benecos Eyeshadow Base helps make them appear more vibrant. Here’s some shots of the base

Natural Eyeshadow Base
IMG_20161016_135406 IMG_20161016_135416

I do not experiment that much with makeup, but these little vegan eyeshadows are making me itch and ache for a complete collection! I already have my eyes on Choco Cookie 🙂

Phyto Phytopolleine

25.09.2016
Phyto

You might recall that I had spotted a universal treatment for the scalp that helps combat everything from dandruff to hair loss. What I had in mind was a treatment for my weakened hair that would nourish and stimulate my natural hair growth.
Phyto Phytopolleine is a natural treatment for the scalp based on a mixture of essential oils that stimulate, cleanse and nourish the scalp to balance it and make hair grow healthy again. If you are curious about the product itself you can read about it in my post here.

It has been over a month and I have used Phyto Phytopolleine five times. The treatment can be used two or three times a week, but I have been busy and have not been able to do it as frequently as I wanted to. I have however, despite using it only a few times, seen a positive affect already. I have used half a bottle and will continue using it – you would not believe how many baby hairs I have gotten around my face, which means my hair and scalp are finally in balance and my hair is able to grow, grow, grow!

Everything needs time. Phyto Phytopolleine wont make your hair thick and strong over night. It is a treatment for the scalp, so you hair needs to grow first, before you see the change you wish to see. Remember, that hair grows about one centimeter a month, so your hair wont be long and strong within the next half year. Give it one or two years, if you want to be realistic!
Personally, I wont be using Phyto Phytopolleine for the next two years just to get the thick hair I believe you can get by using Phyto Phytopolleine – the product is a bit expensive, but I will continue using it very sporadically and keep using natural products that do not irritate or damage the scalp or the hair. It has only been over a month, but I have already received complements at work from my customers that notice how healthy and shiny my hair has gotten, and I advise them to use Phyto Phytopolleine as well. As of yet, I have only received positive feedback and regular customers that buy Phyto Phytopolleine on a regular basis!

Try it for yourself, you will be amazed how effective natural products are. What I have grown to know and experienced is that commercial products are an easy fix to a problem that has to be treated from within – they are based on toxic additives or silicone that only masks the damage that has been done, so give it time, give it a go, and see for yourself what natural beauty and health is worth! And it is a hell of a lot, and believe me – natural beauty feels a lot more amazing 🙂
